Donn and Deby get a New Look!

Yes, I finally got around to updating the Website. As far a Deby and I go, we pretty much look the same. Well, maybe ever so slightly older. Umm, that would be me not Deby.

I’m sending out this update to introduce some new features and let you know what we’ve been up to and what’s next. I realize now, I haven’t posted here in about the same length of time it takes to make a baby so it’s about time.

Thanks for all the new subscribers, who are mostly new friends we meet along the way and other motorcycle travel enthusiasts.  There is a box on the home page  where you can subscribe or unsubscribe.

I’m excited about two new tabs on the top of the post. There is one called LiveMAP where you can see realtime where we are. Once we are on the road it will update every few minutes. Next to that tab is PastMAPS. I figured how to embed iframe files from Google MyMaps, which means you can see maps of select past trips and even zoom or expand the maps for more detail. I’ve also included links above the maps to the associated blog posts and pictures. I’ll be updating that section regularly.

There is a Videos tab that will take you to my ADVdonnh YouTube channel. Right now there are just a few highlight videos from past trips but I hope to have more soon.

The last change was the addition of some big navigation arrows on the right and left of the screen. I tested them and they mostly work, not 100% but might help navigate the posts.

What now?

I’m going to do a few posts in the next few weeks to catch everyone up on some past trips. In July Deby and I packed up the bikes with camping gear and spent two weeks riding around Oregon and Northern California. I thought we were getting too old for sleeping in a tent but we had a blast!

Then we did something that was even more crazy…. we bought these

These motorcycles are the latest generation of the classic Honda Trail 90 series from back in the 60’s. The new ones are a whole 125cc in engine displacement and have fuel injection with ABS brakes so you can safely stop from the blazing top speed of about 50mph. Why would we buy these?? To go in this ride….Monkeys on a Railway. Another trip organized by our friend GPSKevin. We rode those little bikes for over 600 miles in the span of a week along abandoned railroad lines in British Columbia Canada. Watch for that post coming soon.

In September we spent a month in Spain and France, two weeks on motorcycles and two weeks in a campervan.

Kind of a new thing for us trying out “Van life”, I’ll get a post up soon to let you know how we liked. it.

Finally, if you made it this far in the post, we have big plans for the winter….

Back to South America!

We hope to leave in January and get as far south as we can. I have a feeling this trip will be a little different. The weather seems to be more unpredictable, there are some rapidly changing geopolitical issues happening in many of the countries we will be travelling through and let’s face it, we’re not as young as we used to be. Do I dare call this MotoRaid IV? (Keith? Dave?)

On the positive side we are much more experienced in Latin American travel and although my Spanish still stinks it is way way better than on previous trips. We are on the latest BMW motorcycles with all the wiz bang technology and have satellite tracking and communications devices to keep us from getting lost and stay in touch. I’ll be bringing my laptop and hope to post regular updates for all our snowbound friends.

Thanks for following and more to come soon.

  2. Nice changes….liking the Hondas…
Thanks for keeping all of us up to date…..with your adventures…seems like I’m “ lurking “ more than riding….

    • Sal – I’ll try to get you some good material for your morning coffee time. Good to know you are following.

  3. Great to see you both are still “at it” with that same “Gusto” as before.

Wondering if you traded out your bikes, or are rolling with the 700 and 1250 once again this year.

I’ll buy another 1250 in December and head south to Oax this year with the same solo travel vision as before. Hope to see you both.

PS ~ whale video was just lovely, thanks for sharing. My time was in San Ignacio Lagoon

    • Hi Scott, yes the same two bikes (Deby’s is the 750). Let us know when you are Oaxaca, we hope to pass through there again in January.

  4. We are excited to be coming along (via your posts) on your next trip to South America!

  5. You two are the most adventurous people I know. I am looking forward to your upcoming posts Donn.

  6. Looking forward to seeing all your travels. You guys remind me of us. Did you guys buy the Honda 125’s? Eva and Sterling have those bikes and the same colors. Our next big adventure is Eastern Europe. Hopefully 2024. Safe and fun travels my friends. If you come through Bisbee make sure to stop by.

    • Hi Destini! Ha, yes we bought those 125s and rode 600+ miles in Canada on railway trails this past summer. It was a blast. I hope to get a post up about it soon. Thanks for the invitation, but we might cross further west this year. Catch up with you somewhere?
